Privacy & Data Notice
We respect your privacy by design. We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or social media logins.
How Anonymous Participation Works
First-Party Anonymous Session Cookie
When you create a prediction, your browser receives a random 32-byte cryptographic token stored in a secure, HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax first-party cookie. The server stores only a secure HMAC hash of this token. The raw token is never exposed in JavaScript, URLs, or client-side storage.
If you pick a colour theme (System, Dark or Light), a second small cookie, gep_theme, remembers that choice. It contains only the word “system”, “dark” or “light” and is not used for tracking.
No User Accounts or Tracking
There are no logins, passwords or social sign-ins. We do not use device fingerprinting, canvas inspection, or cross-site advertising trackers.
Privacy-Friendly Visit Statistics
We count visits with Umami (opens in a new tab), which sets no cookies and collects no personal data. It records which pages are viewed, the referring site, and general device and country information. Your picks, nickname and shared-card links are never sent: shared cards are counted only as “Shared prediction”. If your browser sends “Do Not Track”, no visit is recorded.
Optional Public Nicknames
Nicknames are completely optional. If provided, they are sanitized and appear only if you explicitly choose to share your prediction map card. If left blank, you appear simply as “Anonymous”. Never submit your real name, email, or telephone number as a nickname.
Opt-In Public Sharing & Instant Revocation
Your predictions are private to your current browser by default. Public sharing is strictly opt-in. Before enabling a link, you will preview a card that includes your overall seat counts and your constituency-level picks on a map. Enabling the link makes that preview public. You can revoke and deactivate your public link at any time from the My Prediction dashboard.
Clearing Cookies & Access
Because this application does not use accounts or emails, your prediction is tied entirely to your current browser’s session cookie. If you clear browser cookies or switch devices, your private access cannot be recovered.
How Long We Keep It
The session cookie lasts 180 days and renews while you keep visiting. When a browser has not visited for 180 days, or you choose “Start over”, any unsubmitted draft is deleted, and so is the session record if nothing else uses it. These checks run once a day. Submitted predictions are kept for scoring after the election.
